In easy and short language, you can say that Chrome checks the SSL certificates, these SSL certificates are the sources that ensure that the authentication and the identity of the website are up to the mark.

Method 1: Refreshing the Page

Starting with the easiest method to implement for the problem. Whenever you see the message on the display, simply just refresh the page. As many users have reported that refreshing the page sometimes solves the issue. Therefore you can press on the F5 button to refresh the page. Also, you can click on the Refresh icon on the top left corner of the browser.

Method 2: Check the Date & Time of the PC

According to many users, this issue occurs when the Date & Time of the system is not correct. You might be thinking what is the importance of the clock for accessing any websites? Basically, Google Chrome uses the clock to properly check the SSL Certificates of the website. Therefore it is very important to sync the clock to the exact time of the system. However, setting the date and the time of the PC is easy.

For Windows Users:

  • Right-click Date & Time, on the taskbar, then select the option Adjust Date/Time.
  • When the window opens, click on the Date & Time.
  • Now on the right panel, you have to click on the “Set Time Automatically” option and toggle it on, to set the date and the time automatically.

Then check if the message  “Your Connection is Not Private” is displayed on the page or not.

For MAC Users:

  • Navigate to the Apple Menu.
  • From there, you have to click on the “System Preferences” section.
  • In the section, you will find the Date & Time option, click on it and then set the date as well as the time to automatic.
  • Although before that, you have to select the Time Zone you are in.

Method 3: Clearing the Cache of the Browser

If the above-mentioned method did not solve the issue, then you can try to clear the cache of the Chrome browser. Perhaps, if you see the message try to open the website in the Incognito Mode, as in this mode the browser does not save any information, such as the history and caches. If you see the website is opening seamlessly. Then you have to clear the cache of the browser. To clear the cache of the browser;

  • Launch the Google Chrome Browser.
  • On the right top corner, you will see three dots, click on it.
  • Scroll down and then select the Settings menu of the Browser.
  • Open the More Tools section, now you have to click on the Clear Browsing Data option.
  • Now select the time range from when you want to delete all the data of the browser.
  • Select the Time Range from the beginning, then mark in the box next to the “Cached Images and Files” options.
  • Lastly, click in the Clear Data button to clear all the browsing history and the data of the browser.
  • In addition to that, you can also scroll down in the Settings menu and then open the Advanced Settings menu.
  • Scroll down and click on the Clean Up Computer options and then simply, follow the on-screen instructions.

Method 4: Clearing the SSL Certificate of the System

Many users also concluded that clearing the SSL certificates could put things back to the proper place. Therefore you can try to clear the SSL Certificates of the system. The process to clear the certificates is easy. Check out the below.

For Windows Users:

  • Open the Control panel from the Start Menu. Now you have to go to the Network & Internet Settings.
  • On the next window, you have to click on the Internet Properties option.
  • When the tab opens, navigate to the Content Tab.
  • Then you have to click on the Clear SSL State option. To ensure that you have cleared the SSL certificates from the system.
  • Restart the system, then launch the browser and check if the “Your Connection Is Not Private” Chrome displays or not.

For MAC Users:

  • Click on the Finder then you have to click on the GO option.
  • From there you have to go to the utility section.
  • Now hit the KeyChain Access section.
  • Then in the left panel, you have to go to the System menu.
  • Thereafter, to remove the Certificates, click on it and then select the Delete option.

At times, this method does not solve the issue as there are situations when there is some error with the “net::err_cert_authority_invalid (CHECk 868 in the sheet)”, you can check the steps to fix this.

Method 5: Modify the DNS Settings (Windows)

At times the issue is triggered due to modifications in the DNS settings of the system. Though you have set up the DNS Settings, sometimes it gets changed. So you have to modify the DNS settings for the issue.

  • From the Start Menu, open the Control panel. Now you have to go to the Network & Sharing Centre.
  • On the next window, you have to click on the Change Adapter Settings option.
  • Now on the active network system, you have to right-click and then select the Properties option.
  • Then when the new tab pops up, navigate to the Networking Tab. Now mark the box next to “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” or “Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)”
  • Once done, click on the Properties option, then open the General tab.
  • Scroll down and then mark the option “Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically”.

Method 6: Disable the Antivirus

According to experts, the issue can occur when you have a third-party antivirus in the system. This will block or prevent the website from opening in the browser. Therefore you can disable the antivirus and then check if the “Your Connection is Not Private” is displayed on the page or not.
