Methods to Fix Problem with Wireless Adapter or Access Point
Most Windows 10 PC users have reported facing problems with wireless adapter or access points. As per their reports, the tech experts have done a detailed analysis, and the laptops that are connected via WiFi are mainly facing the problem with wireless adapter or access point.
The possible reasons behind the problem are outdated network drivers, anti-virus firewall block connections, improper settings in the wireless profile, wireless adapter disabled accidentally, outdated Windows OS and others.
The symptoms are very easy to understand. First, you will not be able to connect to the internet. Second, the network credentials in the adapter will disappear somehow. These two symptoms are enough to detect the issue. Therefore, follow and perform the troubleshooting processes that are given below.
-
Update the Driver
Manually downloading the network driver software can be time-consuming. Therefore, the automatic download process will be effective. The Windows update can help, but this procedure will also take some time. Therefore, the best way to download the drivers is with the help of a third-party tool.
This type of tool is generally known as utility software that will scan your computer. After the scan is over, it will show the list of outdated drivers. Press the Download button beside the name of the driver. After updating all the outdated network drivers, the problems with the wireless adapter or access point will disappear.
-
Convert the WAN Connection
You can establish a WAN connection with the help of an internet cable. As the problem with wireless adapter or access point is occurring in those laptops which are connected via WiFi it’s not possible to use the WAN cable to the RJ-45 connector port.
In this type of situation, you need to use a LAN converter. Of course, there are USB ports, so, with the help of this port, the USB to RJ-45 connector will just do the perfect job. Turn off the Wi-Fi and connect the converter to any USB port. After that, plug in the WAN port to the RJ-45 port and to the connector. Hopefully, no issue will persist thereafter.
-
Disable the Anti-virus
Sometimes, the built-in firewall of the anti-virus can create a problem with a wireless adapter or access point. So, temporarily disabling the security application might help you at some point. On the other hand, if still, the application resists the functions of the wireless adapter, it’s time to opt for new antivirus software to resolve the issue permanently.
-
Take care of the Wireless Profile
Taking care means clearing up all the credentials of the wireless profile. This will remove all the faulty settings that are creating a problem with the wireless adapter or access point. Note down the commands:
“netsh wlan delete
Profile
name=WirelessProfileName”
In the Command Prompt and press the Enter key. After clearing up, reconfigure the profile with proper settings.
-
Look out for Incorrect Password
The given password protects your network from unauthorized intruders. While connecting to the network, obviously you need to provide the desired password. Accidentally, if you provide the wrong one, then the network device that you are using will not allow you to access the internet.
Open the router Login and Management page, navigate through the general settings and have a look at the password. Memorize it, close the Login and Management page, connect to the internet and provide the correct password. Now, you can surf the internet with ease and without any errors.
-
Flush and Recreate the DNS
Incorrect DNS is also responsible for problems with wireless adapters or access points. To fix the DNS, get to the Command Prompt and write the following lines as described below:
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns
Now, the value of the DNS will be blank. Connect to the router and the preferred DNS will fill up its desired place. No problem with the wireless adapter or access point will occur from now onwards.
-
Power up the Wireless Adapter
The wireless adapter might get disabled due to some reasons that you might not know. So, you must not waste any time finding out the reason rather enable it immediately. Press Ctrl+X and select the Device Manager. The Driver window of the wireless adapter will open. There will be several buttons present on the left-hand side of the window. The Disable button will be deactivated, as usual, click on the Enable button.
-
Alter the Router name and Password
As you already know that the name that you have assigned to the router helps your devices to detect the router, whereas the password protects the network. Have you ever thought of changing the name and the password to eliminate the problems associated with the wireless adapter or access point? Let’s just give it a try.
Go to the Router Management page and then to the General settings. Delete the name and assign a different name instead of it. After that, do the same thing for the password. Finally, save the changes and exit the page.
-
Factory Reset the Network Device
Compared to the Modem, the router is one of the most convenient network devices that you can use to establish any wireless connection. On facing the problem with wireless adapter or access point if you see that there are no flaws in the PC, then there must be issues with the router. Without further wasting any time, grab a clip or a pen, find out the reset button, press and hold it for about 10 seconds. When the reset is over, reconfigure the device with all the correct network credentials.
Additional Notes
Creating a simple password will be risky for the network as well as the router. As per the tech experts, a hard-to-decipher password will be very much effective. The combination must contain lower and upper case letters, numbers, and special symbols. If you ever witness that the main Ethernet cable is somehow broken or torn, contact your ISP as soon as possible. They will recheck and replace the damaged wire with a new one.
