Fix ERR_CACHE_MISS in Google Chrome with 5 Effective Methods

Google Chrome web browser comes along with tons of features. But, it is not free from errors that might interrupt your web browsing experience. While browsing the internet, all of a sudden, you might face ERR_CACHE_MISS. It is an error code that appears due to obvious reasons. You will come to know about the reasons and its solutions, shortly.

There are two types of errors that you might face. They are “ERR_QUIC_PROTOCOL_ERROR” and “ERR_SSL_OBSOLETE_VERSION”. Don’t get confused – these two errors are the same.

The ERR_CACHE_MISS – What does it Mean?

The entire matter is related to caching. So, it is obvious that the browser and the system cache files are involved in this matter. When certain browser cache files/files are missing from the computer, the error occurs.

Why does it Appear?

It’s obvious that you want to know the causes behind the issue. Your Google Chrome browser cannot get the necessary cache files from the destined website/master server. Bugs, corrupted web pages, outdated browser versions, incorrect PHP configuration – can be the reason. Let’s head-on to the solutions:

Fix ERR_CACHE_MISS Error

Before moving on to the solutions, make sure that the internet connection is stable. If not then you may not be able to track all the active or inactive browser cache files. So, let’s begin.

Method 1: Refresh the Current Page

Reload or refresh is a process that updates any current web page changes. When the ERR_CACHE_MISS error code appears. Click on the round-shaped arrow that is located at the top-left corner of the web browser. Now, wait and check whether the website that you are trying to access opens or not. You can press the alternative key to refresh the page, which is F5.

Method 2: Get the Google Chrome New Version

There are many ways to update Google Chrome. But, you will follow the most effective and easy method. Close the outdated version and open Internet Explorer or Edge. Go to Google homepage and type “download Google Chrome latest version”. Click on the first link and select the platform you want to download the setup file. After that, click on the available Download button. When the download completes, install the setup file. The new installation will delete and replace the previous version. Hopefully, this will resolve the error code.

Method 3: Remove the Browser Data

The browser cache and cookies stay in the Chrome system folder. If these files stay for a longer period, then the ERR_CACHE_MISS error code might show up. So, to fix the error, you can try removing the cookies and cache files. Click on the three small vertical dots present on the top-right corner of the browser. Hover the mouse pointer over More Tools and choose Clear Browsing Data. In addition to that, after clearing the browsing data, navigate to the Settings and choose Privacy and Security. Select Clear Browsing Data once again and tick on cookies and cached images.

Method 4: Turn off all the Extensions

Malicious or corrupted extensions can lead to the ERR_CACHE_MISS error code. It restricts you from safe and convenient browsing. Look at the top-right corner of the browser. Above the Other Bookmarks option, you will notice the extensions. If your browser has more than 3 extensions, then you will notice the “More” option beside the icons. Click on More and disable all the extensions. Hopefully, this will resolve the error code.

Method 5: Reset the System Network Settings

Malfunctions in the network settings can lead to the ERR_CACHE_MISS error code. In addition to that, the error code restricts the browser to perform correctly. Run Command Prompt as admin. Now, type these commands – ipconfig/release, this will release all the existing internet configuration files. Then, type ipconfig/all, this command will gather all the configuration files together.

Now, it is time to flush the DNS. So, type “ipconfig/flushdns”. In order to renew the DNS and set the IP, type “ipconfig/renew” and “netsh int set dns”. Once again, you have to reset all the other Windows network configuration files with the help of netsh winsock reset.

Lastly, renew the static or dynamic IP with the help of ipconfig. Never forget to press Enter key right after typing the command.

Is it Necessary to Reset the Chrome Settings?

Generally, when you reinstall Chrome, the settings automatically renew themselves. In case, the ERR_CACHE_MISS still appears, then it is necessary to reset the Chrome settings. You don’t have to access any options. Click on the address bar and type “chrome://settings/resetProfileSettings”.
