One of the possible reasons damaged charging port. If the charging port has dealt with some damage or has been exposed to liquid then the chances are that the controller will not charge.

Another reason why the ps4 controller won’t charge could be that the one-time-use batteries are not working any longer. Even if you attempt to charge the controller, it will refuse to take any input since then batteries are no longer working.

Methods to Apply if PS4 Controller Won’t Charge

If you’re annoyed with the experience and want quick fixes on how to charge ps4 controller or how to charge ps4 controller without a charger then go through these simple tips below on how to charge the ps4 controller.

Method 1: Switch To Rechargeable Batteries

If you’ve been using one-time-use batteries then they may not be working anymore. Change the batteries to reusable ones so that when it does run out of charge, you can charge the batteries again.

Additionally, this will not have any impact on the warranty provided with the console so you can use it freely.

Method 2: Do a Hard Reset on PS4 Controller

Resetting the controller will set its original configurations as default, including the battery functions. To do that,

First, turn the controller and locate a small indent on the backside of it, that is situated near the right screw. Or more precisely, it is located right under the button called L2.

With the help of a toothpick, put one end of it inside the indent or the reset hole. Now press and hold the button for a while and then let go of it. After this, the controller will restart. Thereafter, check if the controller is charging or not.

Method 3: Check Cables/Charging Port

Oftentimes, the charging port can be faulty. It is a common problem that the port gets damaged due to the insertion of the cable most of the time. It is advisable that you get a new controller or use another PS4 cable to check if the port is damaged or not.

It could also be that the ps4 controller charger cord is damaged. To find out, try putting the cable into a different controller. Check if you are able to charge it. If not, then replace the cables or get a new one.

Method 4: Remove the Controller from Hot Surface

Keep in mind that hot surfaces tend to be a reason why it won’t charge. Make sure that the PS4 is not kept on any hot surface. There is an isolated component known as the Bluetooth receiver. This component is situated right under the controller.

If it gets heated, the sensors will not work. So, avoid hot surfaces while attempting to charge the controller.

Method 5: Charge the Controller in Upside-Down Way

This is an easy method. You can turn over the controller and charge it. According to reports, this technique works in favor. Simply put the cable inside the charging port and let the PS4 controller charge. Check if it is successful or not.

Method 6: Use Freezer

According to a report, putting the PS4 controller inside the freezer for a small amount of time could help it to charge. This is because if the controller has been overheated due to overuse, the freezer can help the heat to wear off and get the temperature sensors working.

Keep in mind that you should check the controller from time to time when it’s in the freezer as if you freeze it for too long, it can cause great damage to the components inside.

Method 7: Replace Controller

The last option could be that the hardware components of the entire controller might be completely dysfunctional. This could happen if it deals with physical damage, such as falling from a height and hitting any hard surface.

In that case, get a replacement by getting in touch with the PS4 official support.
