Discord Won’t Open: Get the Correct Solutions Here

Discord is the platform, that can be used by everyone to communicate easily with other people. This platform has a dedicated application for Windows machines and a web version also. But, while you try to launch the app version of this platform, then out of nowhere you can get the “Discord won’t open” problem.

The basic meaning of this error is that when you double-click on the Discord application to open it, then it will not start. Sometimes, the application will launch, but it will not work at all.

Why “Discord not opening” error occurs after all?

  • Kill all the Discord processes that are open.
  • If you do not remove the contents within the ‘AppData’ folder after the deletion of Discord application, then this error can come up.
  • When there is some glitch with the time and date application of the computer, you can face this issue.
  • If the DNS settings are corrupted somehow, even then there is a possibility for you to face this glitch.
  • When you use proxies, next, this error can crop up due to that reason.

How to rectify the “Discord app won’t open” Issue?

You will get many methods here, that will help you to fix this error correctly.

Deactivate the Proxy Servers

If the proxy servers are active or you use them to connect to the internet, then you might get this issue. The right answer to get rid of this problem is to disable the proxy servers. How can you do it is as follows.

  • First, hit the combination of ‘Windows + S’ key simultaneously, to open the search area. Inside that area, type ‘control panel’. Then, from the results page locate and choose the ‘Control Panel’ option.
  • In the new ‘Control Panel’ window, select the ‘Network and Internet’ category. Next, from the new page that comes up, select the ‘Internet Options’.
  • As soon as you click on that option, then a new dialog box having the name ‘Internet Properties’ will come up. In that dialog box, choose the ‘Connections’ tab.
  • Under that tab, go to the ‘Local Area Network (LAN) settings’ section and in it, click on the ‘LAN settings’ button.
  • Now, another dialog box will appear, in it, go to the ‘Proxy server’ section. Within this section, untick the ‘Use a proxy server for your LAN’ option. Next, click ‘OK’.
  • Finally, tap on the ‘Apply’ button, then open the Discord application and see if this error reappears or not.

Kill Discord processes from Task Manager

If the Discord application is working as it should, then there is a chance for you to face this very error. Now, the best answer to resolve this problem is to kill all the Discord processes that are open from the Task Manager. In order to do that, follow the steps below.

  • First, press the following keys “Ctrl + Shift + Esc” together to launch the Task Manager program.
  • When the Task Manager window opens up, next, choose the ‘Processes’ tab. Under this tab, move down the list of all the processes that are currently running.
  • Next, from that list locate the “discord.exe” process then select it and click on the ‘End task’ button after the list.
  • If there are multiple instances of the “discord.exe” process, then repeat the previous step to kill them.
  • At last, close the Task Manager window and then see whether you can launch the Discord application or not.

Remove all contents from the AppData Folder

If you do not remove the contents within the ‘AppData’ folder and simply uninstall and then reinstall the Discord application, then you may encounter a “Discord blank screen” glitch. The correct solution to resolve this problem is to remove the contents of the AppData folder after the uninstallation of Discord application. The steps on how can you do it is as follows.

  • First, press the keys ‘Windows + R’ together. This will open the ‘Run’ dialog box. Inside that dialog box enter the text “appwiz.cpl” and click the ‘OK’ button.
  • Now, a new ‘Programs and Features’ window will appear with a list full of all applications installed within the computer.
  • From that list, locate the Discord application and right-click on it. Then, choose the ‘Uninstall’ option. Follow the instructions on the uninstaller window and click the ‘uninstall’ button to remove Discord from the machine.
  • Next, open the ‘Run’ dialog box by following the first step then write the “%appdata%” and press the ‘Enter’ key.
  • At this moment a new window will come up, in it, find and right-click on the ‘Discord’ directory. Next, from the popup window that appears select the ‘Delete’ option.
  • If you get a prompt from User Account Control, then click on the ‘Yes’ button to confirm the deletion.
  • At last, restart the computer then reinstall the Discord application and check if this problem comes up or not.

Set the Time/Date to Automatic

Sometimes due to some problem with the Time/Date program can give you this very issue. The correct answer to resolve this problem is to set the Date/Time to automatic. To do it correctly, follow the steps below.

  • First, hit the combination of ‘Windows + I’ keys at the same time. This will open a new window having the title ‘Settings’ will come up.
  • Inside this window, locate and choose the ‘Time and Language’ category. As soon as you click on that category, then a new page will come up.
  • Within that page, go to the left pane and choose the ‘Date & time’ option. Now, go to the right side of the page and toggle the switch of the ‘Set time automatically’ option to the right, to activate this option.
  • Lastly, open the Discord application and check if this problem comes back or not.

Using the Web Version log in to the Discord

Sometimes, due to some kind of glitch within the Discord application itself can lead to this problem. The easiest way to resolve the issue “why won’t Discord open”, is to simply log into the web version of the Discord platform. For that to happen, follow the steps below.

  • First, open a web browser and then visit the official Discord website.
  • Within that website, log in to the account you have.
  • Now, launch the Discord application and see if it is working or not.
