With the usher of the new 5th generation mobile network technology, there have been huge concerns in regards to the health risk that it can pose. This technology will be a successor to the current 4th generation network.
5G is the new mobile network technology that operates on high-frequency bandwidth. It even lets the user transfer data at a faster rate. All the other mobile networks like 1G, 2G and etc used frequencies between 700MHz to 6GHz. However, the 5G network does its work between the frequency range 28 to 100GHz.
Since the 5G mobile technology uses high-frequency waves, therefore more devices can have access the internet simultaneously at a faster speed. Although this technology operates in high-frequency, it can traverse only small distances. Even it cannot pass through objects, thus, it will need many small antennas that can boost the signal.
Since mobile phones emit electromagnetic radiation. Therefore this has led many people to worry about the health hazards in regards to these devices. The exposure to electromagnetic radiation from mobile devices can develop some type of cancer also.
The World Health Organization and the International Agency for Research on Cancer has categorized every radiofrequency radiations like the one that mobile phone uses as “can be carcinogenic”. However, in the year 2014 WHO said that due to the usage of mobile devices there are no bad health problems.
In 2018, a toxicology report published by the United States Department of Health said the male rats exposed to a high frequency of electromagnetic radiation has developed a cancerous tumor on their heart. In order to perform this study, the rats’ were exposed to nine hours of mobile radiation every day for two years before they were born.
Only male rats have carcinogenic health problems but the female rodents have no such effects at all. The scientists who have studied the rats said that the radiation exposure which human experiences during mobile phone usage, cannot be directly compared.
Even though the studies suggest there is no huge impact on human health in regards to the use of mobile phones with the 5G network. But some groups of scientists have written to the European Union to stop the rollout of 5G technology.

The electromagnetic radiation spectrum is divided into two parts, one is the non-ionizing and the other is ionizing radiations. The non-ionizing radiations have low frequencies but the ionizing one has high frequencies. The mobile phone networks fall into the non-ionizing radiation part, which means it does not contain that much energy to disintegrate DNA and cause damage to the cellular level.
However ionizing radiations like the ultraviolet, X-rays and etc can cause a health issue when exposed for an extended period of time. The exposure to the ultraviolet rays that come out from the Sun can cause skin cancer.
Thus, there is no strong evidence that proves the non-ionizing radiation from mobile devices causes any kind of harmful effects on the human body.
The 5G technology due to its inability to the traverse huge distances and go through any type of object requires a lot of the booster antennas. The booster antennas are the transmitters that send and receive signals from mobile phones.
As the 5G technology has more amount of transmitters. Therefore all of them can function at a lower level of power than the predecessor 4th generation technology. This means that the radiation exposure level from the 5G booster antennas will be much lower.
We know that the mobile network comes under the non-ionizing radiation category of the electromagnetic spectrum. Therefore it means that this category falls within a microwave.
The microwave radiation dissipates heat energy through the things that they pass. But, the heat produced by the 5G network is negligible.
There is no rise in the temperature when someone is exposed to the high frequency of the 5G mobile networks.
