Check the version of the BIOS:

- Press Windows key + R key to open the Run dialog box, then in the box type “msinfo32” and hit the Enter button to open the System Information.
- Select the System summary from the left panel.
- Navigate to the right panel of the window and then click on the BIOS version/Date.
- Also, check the Windows version that you are using the system. Write down all the information on the BIOS as well as the Windows version and the bitness.
Procedures for the HP Pavilion BIOS Update:

Method 1: Update the BIOS through Windows
The following steps are to be followed for the BIOS update through Windows.
Downloading the Latest BIOS Version:
- Launch the Browser and then open the HP Software & Driver page.
- Now in the “Enter my HP model number” type the model number of the HP Pavilion laptop.
- Now select the Windows bit version that you have in the system. Select x64 for 64-bit, or select x86 for the 32-bit.
- Then click on the “+” icon, next to the BIOS section, then you will see all the latest version of the BIOS with the release date. Now check yours from the copy where you noted.
- Thereafter, click on the latest version of the BIOS and download it in the system.
Install and Update to the Latest BIOS Version:
- Once the latest version of the BIOS is complete, now you have to close all the other applications. However, it is recommended that you disable the antivirus for the update process.
- After that, launch the BIOS update application, now on the Eula Agreement window, click on the Accept button to continue.
- Then the Setup will extract all the installation files. Now you have the copy the “Extraction path”, which is “C:\ SWSetup\ SP73917” to continue clicking on the Next button.
- Once the extraction is complete, open the Internet Explorer. And in the address bar paste the copied path and hit the Enter.
- After that, you have to open the “hpqflash” folder.
- In the folder, you will see a file as “SP73917_E”, launch it. However, the number might vary depending on the system but the alphabet will remain the same.
- When the new window opens, you have to select the “Initiate BIOS update on this system” option followed by clicking on the OK button. Now follow the on-screen instructions and wait until the Updating is complete.
- Lastly, reboot your PC.
Method 2: Update the BIOS using a Bootable USB
For this process, you need to have a USB flash drive with a minimum size of 1GB.
Downloading the Latest BIOS Version:
- Launch the Browser and then hit the HP Software & Driver page.
- Thereafter, in the “Enter my HP model number” type your model number of the HP Pavilion laptop.
- Now check the Windows bit version that you have in the system. Select x64 for 64-bit, or select x86 for the 32-bit.
- Furthermore, click on the “+” icon, next to the BIOS section, then you will see all the latest versions of the BIOS with the release date. Now check yours from the copy where you noted.
- Thereafter, select the latest version of the BIOS and download it in the system.
Install and Update to the Latest BIOS Version Using USB
- Once the latest version of the BIOS is complete, now you have to close all the other applications. However, it is recommended that you disable the antivirus for the update process.
- After that, launch the BIOS update application, now on the Eula Agreement window, click on the Accept button to continue.
- Then the Setup will extract all the installation files. Now you have the copy the “Extraction path”, which is “C:\ SWSetup\ SP73917” to continue clicking on the Next button.
- Once the extraction is complete, open the Internet Explorer. And in the address bar paste the copied path and hit the Enter.
- After that, you have to open the “hpqflash” folder.

- During the whole above process make sure that the USB was not connected.
- Now you have to select the “Create a bootable USB disk on key” option and continue.
- Plugin the USB flash drive, and format it. To format it you have right-click on the USB drive and then select the Format option. In the Format window, mark the option FAT32 and then continue with the Format process.
- Now come back to the BIOS update window and then select the USB drive.
- Reboot your PC and then keep on pressing the F2 or the F10 button to go into the BIOS menu of the HP Pavilion. Then select the BIOS update option and select the Boot device option.
- Follow the on-screen instructions and confirm it. Wait until the update of the BIOS is complete. Lastly, restart the computer.
